Koleksi Kita (Indonesian Museums Documentation Project)

Koleksi Kita (Indonesian Museums Documentation Project) is led by SEAMS / Yayasan Jalin Narasi Budaya, in partnership with the Dinas Kebudayaan Provinsi DKI Jakarta and Indonesian Heritage Agency (IHA), with support from AFCP through the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta.

Running from 2024 to 2026, Koleksi Kita strengthens museum documentation, collection management, and public access to cultural heritage through three interconnected areas of work:

1. Collection Documentation & Provenance Research

SEAMS is working with 12 museums and galleries managed by the Dinas Kebudayaan Provinsi DKI Jakarta to document more than 1,200 museum collections using internationally recognised documentation standards. The project also supports provenance research on 60 colonial-era objects at the National Museum of Indonesia, applying the Significance 2.0 methodology to strengthen collection knowledge, transparency, and historical understanding.

2. Koleksi Jakarta Digital Platform

As part of the initiative, SEAMS developed Koleksi Jakarta, a bilingual (Indonesian–English) digital platform that brings together museum collections from across Jakarta into a single searchable website. Built using international standards- including the Getty Art & Architecture Thesaurus (AAT), Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names (TGN), and Categories for the Description of Works of Art (CDWA)- while adapting them to the Indonesian context, the platform improves collection management and makes Jakarta's cultural heritage more accessible to researchers, educators, students, and the wider public.

3. Capacity Building & Public Engagement

The initiative also delivers workshops, seminars, and knowledge-sharing activities for museum professionals, alongside public programmes that encourage greater engagement with museum collections. Through training, collaborative research, and digital access, Koleksi Kita supports more sustainable museum practices while expanding opportunities for people to discover and connect with Jakarta's cultural heritage.
